From Personal Tragedy to Purpose-Driven Action
Wander Rescue was born from a personal tragedy that changed everything. When founder Sam Rowley’s cousin, who lived with cognitive challenges, wandered from home in the heat of summer, the search ended in heartbreak. The loss rippled through Sam’s family, not just in grief, but in the painful realization that more could have been done. That moment became a mission.
Wander Rescue exists to prevent other families from experiencing that same devastation. Every part of this service, from the discreet wearable device to the rapid alert system, has been shaped by lived experience, urgency, and compassion.
Today, Wander Rescue gives caregivers peace of mind and offers vulnerable individuals a better chance of getting home safely.

September 7, 1977 – July 14, 2024
“Scott was my oldest brother and had a developmental disability from a young age. Growing up, he was like a big kid. I usually watched him play games like Mario 64 and Starfox 64, games which he memorized every level and every voice line. Scott was nothing but fun. Everywhere we went, he was the center of attention with a contagious laugh and a chaotic sense of humor.
In July of 2024, Scott went missing. We had no way of finding him other than missed phone calls from a restaraunt in the middle of the night miles away from his home. We searched for days, put posters everywhere, received support from friends and family but received no support from our local government. We were lucky enough to discover he showed up at Harborview Hospital in Seattle… but by then it was too late.
For many people with disabilities like Scott, there exists a massive hole in ensuring their wellbeing in the event they go missing. If Scott had a service like Wander Rescue, he would likely still be with us today to bring us immense joy.
The value of knowing at-risk loved ones will not be alone in times of crisis is priceless. Sharing Scott’s story is one way of honoring him, he wanted nothing more than for everyone to be okay and happy.”
